comfort is a powerful drug
Do you want to be happy or do you want to be comfortable?
It's not that you can't have both. But it is that you can't have both until you are comfortable being happy. In the meantime, you have to choose.
Because if you are not used to being happy β gut-wrenchingly, soul-nourishingly, deeply-in-your-bones happy, then at first it's going to feel uncomfortable. Because, anything that we haven't yet experienced is uncomfortable.
Actually, it's downright scary. When the brain encounters something new, fear arises within you.
And this is why it's easier to scroll instagram than it is to make a post,
why it's easier to stay on instagram, than it is to leave,
why it's easier to say we will, but then do nothing.
It's also why it's easier to keep doing the same things that we have always done, but to mask them in the idea that they are somehow new or novel β to justify our actions as 'right'.
Comfort is a powerful drug. Anytime we find ourselves mentally justifying anything, it's an opportunity to investigate.
Are we choosing what will make us happy? Or are we choosing what makes us comfortable?
