Since leaving the 'gram in June, I've felt lighter, and in many ways like I have reclaimed myself. But, I miss it from time to time.

Of course, I miss the connections I've made. I miss the back and forth of sharing a good meme with a friend. I even miss the onslaught of animal reels my mom used to send me.

But when it comes to my work & my business, there is one thing that I definitely miss the most:

the ease of posting.

AKA the lack of effort required to push my thoughts into the world.

🤳🏽 the ability to just pick up my phone and record a story, because I felt inspired, or learned something new, or wanted to hear from you what you were thinking.

Despite being in a hamster wheel of creation, the effort required to pop into stories, to hit post, to share that I'd dropped a new podcast or a new venture was low.

I had been operating on social media for so long, that being seen in this way (showing myself, sharing my thoughts) became second nature to me.

When I left it, suddenly the sustained attention span for a story vs. a newsletter, or a page of sales copy felt different. Suddenly, showing up on LinkedIn or my personal website, or anywhere in public felt bigger, harder, scarier, and like I needed to show up perfectly.

When you shift into new ways of occupying the world with your work, there is suddenly a lot more time to second guess yourself, to realize that you've been writing in circles, to miss the point entirely before you've made it. There is suddenly a lot more room for old stories and programming to pop back in.

Because new ways of occupying the world with your work are new – they take effort and practice and iterations to master.

Yet you must channel your own voice & to rely more on yourself than the influence of others because it is your voice that others want to hear – not their own.
